It’s that time again – from August 18^th – 24^th, the time to celebrate books and reading and to foster a life-long passion for stories and the written word in your child, as well as just being a whole lot of fun. Of course, we’re talking about Book Week 2018.

Book Week is a week-long festival run by the Childrens Book Council of Australia to promote the importance of literacy for our kids. This year the theme is “Find Your Treasure”. This can be interpreted in a number of literal and metaphorical ways – with the most obvious dress up idea being swashbuckling pirate costumes, in their eternal quest to find where X marks the spot, as found in many classic kids books from Treasure Island to Peter Pan, or Pirates of the Caribbean. Perhaps this theme could refer to the vast hoards of gold and jewels collected by mighty dragons, such as Smaug in J. R. R.
